Little Angels in the News - Team Life

Graeme Keehn is a keen runner and wanted to put his skills to use to help physically challenged children.  Graeme’s employer also joined in by sponsoring another prototype with improvements!  Working with ShonaQuip, the jogger is a modified version of one the company’s models for running and offroad.  After numerous prototypes and trial runs, Graeme came to Little Angels with his amazing idea. We jumped at the chance!

The result: Team Life

  Eikendal 10km walk

  Cape Town Peninsula Run 2011

  Hermanus Wheelers Half Marathon 2011

Apiwe was praying for no rain to occur during the run while we were driving there- in the rain!  The start was sunny and warm with loads of other wheelchairs, trikes and hand cycles. The weather turned, rain and wind, by the time we got half way and Apiwe was starting to get too cold so we bailed and had headed home in the warm car, try again next year!

  SAD Half Marathon Wellington 2011

Apiwe was my passenger, he polished off a packet of wafer biscuits and made a the run a load of fun to do.  Again a record number of entries in this race, 10, 000, which makes the start a little slow but that's ok with us!  The weather helped make this again another great run.

  Two Oceans Half Marathon 2011

Lorenzo was my side kick and has got his royalty wave down to a pat now.  We had stunning weather and a lot of fun out there. There were 14,000 runners on this event alone and little room to move around, so just went with the flow!

  Winelands Half Marathon 2010

The Winelands Half Marathon was nice and overcast.  We bundled Sima into a nice jacket and off we went. We played this game while running where we accelerated the chair a little, she calls it "walk", and then we ran after her.  She was absolutely laughing her head off!  What makes runs like this fun is that you bump into so many people you met over many of the previous runs like a friend called "Tiny"!

  Gun Run Half Marathon

Aphiwe got a ride and a half yesterday, we entered the Gun Run half marathon in Cape Town, along the foreshore and through the Waterfront, a fun route, regardless of the cold front that was in the process of blowing itself in. Strong strong winds, Aphiwe and I were praying for no rain just for 2:30hrs so we could finish the run, well we had no rain to stop us, threatened though!

Two Oceans

It was an early morning, pick up at 04:45am and off to Cape Town. Drizzled a bit at the start, but we were prepared for that.  We stopped and took photos with many of the supporters.  The vibe and chatting to so many people makes the time absolutely fly by. Aphiwe was just chanting "Ek het gewen, ek het gewen!" when we finished.

We have a couple of races left before the winter kicks in.

Dwarsrivier Half Marathon

Graeme took Lorenzo with him on the Dwarsrivier Half Marathon (21 km) on 11th November. It was Lorenzo's first official half marathon which he loved! It was touch and go with the weather with strong winds up and around the Helshoogte Pass and a lot of off-road on the return leg. Lorenzo interacted very well, and even ran out of the house at 5am when he saw the car coming to collect him!

Winelands Half Marathon 2009

Aphiwe participated in the Winelands Half Marathon (21 km) on 21 November 2009. It was Aphiwe's first half marathon and he had to get out of bed early – the start time was 5:45am. But it was all systems go full of excitement when he saw the jogger on the roof racks. Graeme and Aphiwe had a blast and stole the show many a time on the road with Aphiwe chirping some of the runners that were passed!! At times he was laughing and brought such joy to those around him. Towards the finish, Graeme got Aphiwe out the chair and he pushed the jogger in the last 20m, with the crowd clapping him in.

Well done guys!!! Thanks to Graeme & his fellow runners from the staff at Little Angels.

Aphiwe & Lorenzo love their running outings and certainly looking forward to many more this year!
